CD Packaging analysis

This was created in 2003 and was originally a list produced by VH1 of the 50 greatest hip hop artists. The first thing that i notice is the use of cardboard and the break dancers as images. Break dancers who perform on the streets would have originally and still do use cardboard to stop them injuring them selves. the box its self makes a boom box with the image on the front. I think the sole use of black is to give the idea of it coming from the street and from deprived area and not being able to afford better. it also comes with stickers as a bonus which would allow the user to customize their own packaging once they have bought it.

Jessamine are a post rock band from the 90s and have been influenced by multiple genres of rock from shogaze to grunge to metal and indie. There vinyl theme is based on the famous escapologist from the late 1800s and it has a Gothic Victorian feel to it. The front cover looks like a poster advertising a Houdini performance. The picture its self is Houdini trying to escape from various shackles and chains. Because of the bands that have influenced Jessamie and the type of music that they produce I think that the theme is trying to express the idea of of escaping from a dark place and that the artists feel trapped.
