Sketch

As part of the As-A2 project I had to draw a picture of a music artist relevant to the genre of music and an instrument related to the music. On the right hand side is Congo Natty, a Jungle music producer and artist and to the left is an example of a typical set up for a dj with the decks and an example of someone playing them. Dance music is made up of a mixture of sounds that are electronically altered and hence their instruments are the turn table, mixers and laptops.

Digital screen printing

This is a screen print that i have created using photoshop. The poster is to advertise dubstep. The image its self is of a DJ performing but I put the head of a rat onto it to add to the underground/ grimey/ urban theme that is dubstep.

This is a vector portrait that I created using illustrator. The person is of course Jimi Hendrix so to give a psychedelic theme I used the colours purple and yellow to fill the picture and to give his features.

Textile Portrait

Using a picture of  Jimi Hendrix I have created a portrait by filling a silhouette with pattern above. Originally it was suppose to have been filled with a textile pattern but given who it is and the era/music he made I thought that the pattern that I have chosen was more appropriate and represented him better.

contextual research (CD Packaging)

This is an analysis of the four C.D covers above.
The artist of this CD is YourCodeNameIs:Milo and the album is print is dead. The design looks like a person has scribbled over the top and left a negative space where the title is. This could be saying that they didn't what to print the title so they scribbled it on them selves. This could be a tong and cheek idea because the title looks like it has been printed on. Their genre is alternative/ post-hardcore and so the title compliments this because that type of music is rebellious and the songs are generally trying to make a statement.

The artist of this album "bangarang" is skrillex an american electronic music who creates a fusion of house/ dubstep/ elctronic. His music is very distinctive when compared to other artist of the electronic genre. This is evident through the choice of the album cover as other artists of the genre would usually go for the traditional black and use clean colours. The use of the the broken glass suggests rebelliousness ans the music he creates is very explosive and high energy. The use of the colour red is generally used show the emotion of anger but in this case it is rebelliousness. The type font that he used is unique to mim and is computer generated and this links in with the idea of electronic music and the new age of using computers to create new music and art.

Paper Cutting

This is a paper cutting done in the style of Rob Ryan. I have used part of the lyrics from "little wing" by Jimi Hendrix and so I used a 60s style font and imagery that could be appreciated with the  summer of love/ flower power theme of the era as well as the song.

Photoshop Typography Portrait

This is a typography poster created using adobe illustrator using the clipping mask technique. The writing in the back ground is made up of the names of the songs that this particular artist has created. I made the writing and lettering different sizes and chose to use a gill sans style font because I thought that this would suit the artist and style of music better. The reason for this is because it give a digital feel and as the genre is a type of electronic music the two go hand in hand. The I used the colours red and green because not only do they compliment each other but they are two of the Rastafarian colours and the genre (Dubstep) find its routes in reggae music.
